"A MODERN LORELEI."
The Lorelei of Mythology was a beautiful siren who lured unwary travellers on to the rocky coast of the island where she and her nymphs held sway. She sat on the rocks combing her wonderful golden hair, singing the while a seducivo and alluring song, seeing in her magic min or the cruel results of her work as the traveller was dashed to pieces on the sharp rocks below. The story,, as unfolded in a fine dramatic picture entitled " A Modern Lorelei " being screened at the Empire Theatre to-day, is that of a modern innocent Lorelei, who unwittingly calls forth the love of the men around her, arousing jealousy, hatred, passion, and violence. She, too, hires a stranger to her little island of the sea, but instead of being dashed to pieces the girl rescues him from- the waves, and learns the time meaning of love —her dreams oome true. This modern Lorelei is seemingly only a fisherman's 2 irl, but she had been kidnapped when a child, and for years hits lived with her foster father on this small island. There are others on the island who love Loreki, and when Dorian, whom Lorelei rescued from the sea, begins to make love to her and tells her the story of tho ancient Lorelei, his enemies make an attempt on his life. Dorian is again rescued. Eventually a search party readies the island, and not only is Dorian restored to the outside world, but the discovery is made that lx>rolei is his old-timo playmate, so they leavo their beautiful "island of dreams for a greater happiness. The supporting pictures will include a Topical Gay.ottc, a good comedy, and the final episode of "Who Is Number One?"
