Mr Clvnes, Controller, addressing a conference comprising idOO oificials of labour organisations, explained that the further advance of 2d per lb in the price of meat was due to the shipping shortage shutting out Australian supplies, allowing only the importation of North American, meat, where the cost of production ia higher than in Australasia.
