WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL

Ihe monthly meeting of the Waihemo County Council was held on Saturday. Cr it. Matheson occupied the chair. _ A quantity of correspondence was received in conncction with tlie "Our Day" appeal on behalf of the Red Crocs work among the sick and wounded soldiers and sailors of tlie Empire. It was dccided to donate £50 to the fund, the deserving nature of the appeal being freely commented upon. ' E. T. Jones, Dunback. compkaned about Parkhill's stock being run on the township. The nuisance had existed for the past 20 years.—The ranger to attend to the matter, and the owner of the stock to be notified that further laxity on his part will make him liable to prosecution. R. Jamieson, Stoneburn, directed attention to the bad state of the road leading to his farm.—Matter to receive attention. The Dominion Secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union forwarded the following resolution passed at a recent conference:—"That the various County Councils be urged to erect finger-posts at all junctions of main roads and by-roads with main roads for the guidance of the travelling public."—The engineer was instructed to erect finger-posts where necessary. The Minister of Public Works forwarded a condition for carrying out works under Government subsidies.—Received. The Acting Secretary of the Otago Expansion League asked for the support of the council in bringing the necessary influence to bear upon the Legislature of the dominion in connection with a general scheme or schemcs for the supply of hydroelectric energy throughout Otago. It was also asked that a representative bo appointed to attend a conference, to bo held in Dunedin on October 9.—lt was decided to write expressing sympathy with the movement. Wm. M'El wee, Glenpark, asked that gravel to spread on tho road leading to his homestead.—Received. The Inspector reported on the works carried out in the various ridings during the month. ■ Nine horses and six cows were impounded during" the month. Accounts totalling £202 10s 6d were passed ■ for payment.
