"ROMANCE."
" Romance," tho_ famous play by Richard Sheldon, will receive its premier© at TTia Majesty's Theatre to-morrow night under the J. C. Williamson direction, with Miss Kathlene Macdonell as Margherita Cavallini and Mr_ Charles Waldron as Thomas Armstrong in the two principal parts. " Romance" comes with the reputation of being ono of tho most successful plays for many years. As the dazzling prima donna, "La Cavallini," Miss MacDonoJl has achieved a real triumph. Tho character is said to bo tho finest doliniation of all her extensive repertoire. Mr Charle3 Waldron, too, would appear to bo splendidly suited as the romantic rector of Saint Giles. A prima donna is seen on tho stage. Her airs and graces, whims and oaprices, aro romantic, and' her dressing and stylo (tho action of the play takes place in the late sixties) are romantic. She actually makes a 1 New Tork banker romantic. Ho has once been her protector, but gives her up; partly because he is in the fifties and getting tired, and partly that she may havo the chanco of virtuously marrying tho clergyman. The dream of that virtuous marriage is her own private romance. But it is not to be, and so she has to relinquish her private romance, and tlio.clegryman has to relinquish his. Of Miss Macdonell as La Cavallini, an impartial critio writes: "Miss Macdonell makes a great success of it all—enchantment, tantrums, lingua tosoana. and tho rest of it. Sho has a rich tomperamOnt, a real personality, and an irresistible charm." " Romanoe " will be played for the first throe nights, and will be followed by "The Cinderella Man." and a. revival of "Daddy Long Legs." The ' box plans are now open at the Bristol.
