DAFFODIL SHOW
An exhibition of narcissi seedling blooms was opened at Messrs Eeilly, Gill, and Co.'s stores, Moray rilaoa, yesterday under tho auspices of the Otago and Southland Daffodi Club. Owing to the recent snow some of the blooms that were expected from growers at Sawyers' Bay, Mornmgtori, and other _ parts did not come forward. Tho prinoipal exhibitor was Mr Lowe (gardener to tho Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes}, of Christ-church, who was represented by some very choice flowers. Every one of Ilia blooms was tall and well-formed, and it was particularly noticeable how well they held their heads up. Prominent anong the number were: Little John, Ruddy Gold, and Flowing Bowl. Pixie's Lantern is a new departure in daffodils, showing an apricot cup. There were one or two perfect specimens of War Cloud. Another seedling, named General Fochj bred from War Cloud, is said to be ev«n better than its progenitor. Some of this variety will probably bo seen at subsequent shows. A number of local exliibitors,' who have reaeon to bo proud of their fine blooms will be interested in Mr Lowe's collection. Some Oamaru seedlings bad ! also been looked for, but they had not come to hand yesterday afternoon. It is the intention of the club to hold weekly shows during tho season.
