EMPIRE THEATRE
"Tho Man from Painted Post" is tho chief picture at the Empire Tlieatro just now. It was shown for the first time yesterday, and earned the • approval of those who witnessed it. The story is an interesting one, and follows a portion of the career of the young man iShcrwood Harding in a town called "Painted Post." whose past J"™ a great, sorrow. A bad man named .30.30 Smith" had killed his (Sherwood's) sister for resisting his attentions, so Sher- - wood had sworn to have revenge. For this object ho becomes a proficvjnt shot, and thus ready lor his and keen to m? et ev - on " is ' ntr °rfuced on the screen. J.here ~is much cattle-stc&linGf going on and a man named Madden is the suspect.' A meeting of cattlo men is. held, and Sherwood, who rejoices in tho sobriquet ° r . r Jim" is elected to trap the thief. Sherwood disguises himself as a '"tenderfoot," and in prosecuting his investigations he meets a girl (no picture is complete without one) upon whom Madden is forcing his attentions. Of course Sherwood loves her, and her style and ideas make the great "gun man" 'wish he had devoted his attention to something a little higher than revolver shooting. Of course Madden turns out to be Smith oi "20 30 and this only adds to Sherwood's determination to finish Smith off. After many exciting incidents Sherwood gets the upper hand of Smith, captures the girl, and; of course, saves her from a terrible after life It is almost unnecessary to add that Sherwood and the rescued girl come to an understanding, and that their regard for eacli Other become; mutual—a vcrv fine picture very finely noted. and finely photographed' The supports are the 15th chapter of "Tho Great Secret' and a Burton Holmes travelogue.
