KUROW NOTES

(FROM ODE OWN CoRBESPONDaNT J KUR.OW, September 19. Some time ago a large patriotic committee was set up to raise funds to send Christmas, gifts to our soldiers. On "Wednesday week the committee held a most successful function in the Public Hall. The Rev. John Craig (chairman of the committee) occupied the ohair, and there was a very large attendance. After a short musical programme the parcels, for which tickets had been sold, were distributed, the produce was sold, and tea was served in the ante-room of the hall. The financial result was considerably over £300. It was agreed to transmit the whole amount to the sodiers at the front—so much in coupons and the rest in cash. People who have lived, in this district for over 30 years say that they have never before seen such a late spring. This time last year the gardens were well on, but this year growth is just commencing. Th c lambs are now appearing in large numbers, but thc grass is so backward that the mothers have scarcely sufficient mili.
