'lhe candidates will be: Mr Hildreth (the Government . nominee); the official Labour nominee (Mr P. Fraser); Mr J. T. Fitzgerald, who will stand as an Independent candidate; Mr M. J. Mack (secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants), who will stand as an Independent Labour candidate: Mr C. J. F. Garmson, a returned soldier, but not a representative in tills _ matter of the Returned Soldiers' Association; ajid Mr Harry' Atmore. The Qoubtful one is Mr lien M'Kenzie, a citv councillor. There is some doubt about Mr Atmore; but the chanoes are that he will at any rate, make a speech or two and take some part in the campaign. Mr Mack is standing as an Independent Labour man, challenging the Maoriland Worker coterie. He is solid on the war. and he will get a lot of support. Mr Fitzgerald expected to be the Government nominee, and he persists in his declaration that he will go to the poll. The three candidates who have a reasonable chance of winning are: Messrs Mack, Hildreth, and the Socialist. Mr Mack will get a lot of Labour support, and he will get support from other people who have_ never had much interest in Labour politics before.
