ALEXANDRA NOTES
(From Our Own Cobrespondknt.) T1 ALEXANDRA, June 12. Hard frosts prevail night and morning but the weather is good. ' In the rabbit industry trapping has given place to poisoning, which means reduced supplies for the local freezing and preserving factories. The local Presbyterian Church held jubilee services on Sunday in commemoration of the 50 years' life and work of the Presbyterian Chufch in the district of Alexardra and Clyde. In April, 1868, the ordination and induction of trie first minister (the Rev. Charles Stuart Ross) to the pastoral charge of the district took place: The jubilee services were conducted by the Rev. Professor Hewitson. Large congregations assembled at Alexandra morninn- and evening, and at Clyde in the afternoon. Preaching in the morning at Alexandra, Professor Hewitson took as his subject " The Church as the Body of Christ" (Cor. xii), using 'the illustration of tho human body us setting forth the vitality, diversity, adaptability, unity, growth, and completeness of the whole. In the evening Professor Hewitson discoursed on the e£ pansion of the work of the Church, as illustrated by tho origin and growth of its missionary labours, notably in China. He held the keen attention of his hearers for over an hour as he related his experiences jn China when making a visit 'there in his capacity as chairman of the Foreign Missions Committee of the Church.
