PRISONERS OF WAR APPEAL.

TO THB BDITOB. Sib,—lt is almost certain that many in the long list of " missing" published in tho oasualty list in one of your issues last week will later be reported to be prisoners of war, but in most cases months must pass before any definite information can be ro ceived. In the meantime these men will 'bo dependent for everything above the starvation allowances supplied by the Germans on what they or their fellow prisoners receive through the Central Committee for the Relief of Prisoners of War. London. I would' suggest that your columns bo opened for an urgent appeal for funds as there can be no more deserving object. Hie men repatriated from Germany in January have feaidt-" Wo should never have lived through it but for the food parcels from Home. It is the people in England who have kept us alive." We cannot let our prisoners starve. —I am, etc.. „ , r _ L- Macassct. J June din. May 27. THE MORNINGTON TRAMS. TO THS 2DITOU. Sir—Permit me, as a visitor to this city, to say, after reading "Motorist's " letter, that the apparent disregard of the bylaws of the city which he mentions strikes a stranger very forcibly. On Friday last I was a witness of what might have ljcen a nasty accident, due entirely to the fault "Motorist" has most acutely pointed out. A motor cyclist turn lug from Manse street into 'street was unfortunato enough, desoite the great, care with which ho took the oorner, to run into tho down-ooming Mornington oar, and it can only have been tho vcrv slow'pace at which ho was nroeeeding that aavc him from injury. Is this htato of affairs to be tolerated by those who live 111 High street or 011 the surrounding roads? Are theso cars, which are a mo&acc to all traffic pass wg through High street, to ba allowed to run on their wrong eide of the road? I ai T\ et °{ ; tit Visitor. l>anedm, May 27.
