ATHLETIC UNION

The annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Athletic -Union was held last evening. Mr A. M. Wylie pre°ver a good attendance of delegates. * Ine Chairman formally welcomed Mr C Keast to the meeting. Mr A. G. Fenwick' an ex-president of the club, was accorded an enthusiastic reception. The clubs which had conducted meetings during the year had devoted the proceeds to patriotic purposes. The question had been raised of closing down until after the war: but he was of the opinion that they were working on sound lines, and it was their duty to keep sport alive ponding the return of many of the past competitors, who were serving the ■Empire i n its hour of trial He thought it a fine thing that athletes had so ably answered the country's call. Lang; president, Mr R B Meek ; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Telfer'and J. Carroll; hon. auditor, Mr Goo. Davidsonhon. secretary and treasurer, Mr A G Dreaver; executive—Messrs R. G Varcoe" A. A. Campbell, A. M. Wylie, J. F Menzies, D. Young, Jas, Howoll, D. F M'Kav A. Polwarth, G. P. Gerrio. . A bonus of £5 5s was voted to the hon secretary. ~ Telfer was appointed to represent the president in any matters of emergency, owing to Mr Meek being resident in the country. Mr A M. Wylie was presented with a pair of inscribed military brushes by the members as a mark of their appreciation of the services he had rendered to the centre during his term of office. It was decided that the newly-elected officers continue in office till the end of the war.
