FORTY-SECOND REINFORCEMENT. The 42nd Infantry, the Otago section of which loft D-unedin last week, are to bu equipped a'f, Trentham, and will then proceed to Tauherenikau, where the recruits arc- to occupy the present CI camn for'a fortnight in isolation. The CI men* at pre-Rr-nt in camp will go to the canvas camp at iesithoHrton. The period of isolation is considered desirable- in view of the size of the draft, and the Taiihc-renikau camp has a particularly good health record. Thp ] 42nd Infantry will return to Trentham at the close oi the fortnight. ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RED CROSS AND PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION The work sent out last week was as follows:—Red Cross: 4 pairs mittens, 1 stump sock, 12 handkerchiefs, 10 snap ba-ge, 17 convalescent coats, 4 shirts, 12 tea towels. H flannel drawers, 3 suits pyjamas, 4 shirts. Early So'ttlers" Hull: 48 'service bags 6 pairs eocks, 7 shirts, 24 soap bags, 2 day flannels, 12 handkerchiefs, sugar. WORK AT MORNIXGTOK The May collection, amounting to £13 16s, was received last week at the Mornington Council Chambers, and was handed over to th~e Otago Women's Patriotic Asso- I eial.ion. All the patriotic collectors are busy this week with the house-to-house can- i yiise for the "cot" for the Red Cross I Home. Several parcels of socks, balaclava j caps, wrappers, and soap bags were packed ! ready to be sent to the Early Settlers' H.ill. ! Uie weekly parcel from 'the pupils of the i school consisted of: 2 soap bags, 13 hand- I kerchiefs, 5 pairs of eocks, 35 towels, and 1 service bag. THE CHURCH ARMY. Many strange and picturesque places in tho war areas have been selected as sites for Church Army recreation huts. Them is one in the prison vault of a well-known city (now in ruins) in Flanders; one has been set up on a harse plying on tho Flemish canals; another is on ?.lo:int Olivet, in Palestine. A special point is made t f the work among "the sailors of tho flrrt and the craws of the mine-sweepers. Tμ pntno lonely places on the coasts of (lie British Isles, the Church Army huts un> the only available centres for recreation and companionship to which the sailors have access.
