The working year has just ended, and the Women 8 Committee is to bo congratu■l <v UI>OU success which has attended its eilorts. A record number of cases has been sent away, and members have been giaUhcd at receiving letters of appreciation of tneu- gifts.

MILITARY CROSS WINDERS

Second Lieutenani ILchard George Briscoe, son et the London chairman of Briscoe .and Lo., Ltd., and Lieutenant Douglas Vernon 'ionison, the London manager of that company, have each been awarded the Military Cross tor gallantry on the western front. Lieutenant Briscoe was commanding a half company in |an attack. He led hie men with tho greatest energy and dash under continuous and accurate rifle and muclune gun lire, and when two runners, in succession had boon killed ho decided to take their message himself back to his company commandor. and successfully gob thiough and back to his platoon although heavily shot at all tho time. For the ne%t three days ho remained in the front line in a most exposed position, doing his duty admirably under heavy liro and most advet so weather conditions.

The Houipnpa branch sent 8 sheets. 40 rervw bags. 4 pairs socks, and books. Th" Otakura branch sent:— Ladv L-verpool Fund: 9 shirts. 7 flannel shirts 3 rn-iama sirM. 4 nairs socks. 12 handker- , Cross: 10 shirty 6 flannel shirts. 12 bed jackets, 10 handkerchiefs, 3 pans sacca.
