OTAGO PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. The animal report states that the year's work «-has been very heavy. Representations regarding the matters to be remitted to the Government and various public bodies and institutions have been sent on, in many cases with very satisfactory results. Mr James Begg. an ex-Otago president of the union, and still a member of the executive, has been appointed Efficiency Board Commissioner for Otago, a position your executive feels he is thoroughly qualified to fill. A proof of added interest in Farmers' Union matters is the formation of four new branches— namely, Waitahuna. Blackburn, Awamangu, and Alexandra. The executive considers that in all country districts throughout Otago, branches of the union should be formed. MUTUAL FIRE INSURANCE ASSOCIATION. The directors report a very, successful year's work. The losses by fire were nil, and the net profit for the year is consequently £648, which is eminently satisfactory. The directors have also been enabled to add considerably to the reserve account.
