HEALTHY FINANCIAL STATEMENT. INCOME INCREASED ALL ROUND. (Pu United Prkss Absooiatioh.) WELLINGTON, May 23. Detaila of receipts and expenditure under the Consolidated Fund for the past financial year are published in this week's Gazette. The .Finance Minister, on April 30, intimated that there wo'uld be a surplus of revenue over expenditure for the year of £5,000,000. Details and comparative figures for the previous year are: ORDINARY REVENUE 1916-17. 1917-18. Customs ... £3,249,674 £3,364,308 Stamp and death duties 1,699,035 1,892,014 Post and telegraph 1,815,557 1,836,255 Land tax 713,118 1,385,708 Incomc tax 4,262,125 5,619,560 Beer duty 187,953 237,075 Railways 4,836,275 4.668,223 Registration fees 108,044 101,249 Marine 43,741 38,042 Miscellaneous ... 518,062 718,436 Totals £18,033,589 £19,860,833 EXPENDITURE. Under permanent appropriations the expenditure increased from £6,095,355 in 1916-17 to £6,668,810 in 1917-18. The principal items were: Interest and sinking fund, which increased from £4,014,791 to £4,430,779; war pensions, from £180,165 to £415,383; and old-age pensions, from £453,0® to £612,463. The expenditure under annual appropriations for the end of two years showed an increase of nearly half a million.
