MINING.

The report of the manager of the Mount Road and Rosebery mines for the fortnight ended May 8 reads as follows:—Hercules Mine: No. 5a adit to 232 ft, in calcitic schist; No. 5 level—new adit to 2301t ; n sihcious schist; 620 ft north drive reached 268 ft; shows good grade zinc-lead sulphide overfull width of face. Rosebery iMinc: adit level—north drive to 364 ft; low-grade ore over full width of face; No. 6 level—north drive to 702 ft, ore of good grade making across the face; No. 5 level—drive north of rise to 105 ft, fair grade oro appearing over full width of face; No. 4 level—north drive reached 731 ft m lode formation; at No. 3 level north drive to 227 ft, in soft schist, mineralised with iron pyrites. . The manager of the Mount Lyell Mining Company reports as follows for the ended May B:—Mount LyoU Mine: No. 6 level—No. 54 diamond drill bore completed at 130 ft: No. 9 level—No. 52 diamond drill bore completed at 50ft; No. 53 diamond drill bore, horizontal, com44ft, after penetrating 10ft of sihcious pyrites between 13ft and 23ft. North _ Mount Lyell Mine: 700 ft levelground floor stoping operations continue in north drive; 925 ft level—No. 2 north drive reached 356 ft, through fair grade quartzitic ore; 1000 ft level—north drive to 260 ft, through mineralised schist; 1100 ft levelnorth drive to 401 ft through schist. Reduction W° r ks: Two furnaces in blast during fortnight; 3585 tons of blister copper consigned to the refinery for the current year.
