COMMISSIONS FOR EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.
The method of awarding commissions in . the Expeditionary Force was introduced a* Isefc night's meeting of the Committee of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers' Association. .A member referred to the fact that several officers in the Territorial Forces were endeavouring to force the hands of the Government in the direction of grantin them commissions in the Expeditionary Forces, &nd that these men hod already cost the country some £3000. The principle of, as far as possible, giving these commissions to returned soldiers was, said the speaker, one of the first for 'which the association fought, and it ought not to allow this right to pass from it° After some discussion the following motion was carried unanimously That this committee views with disfavour the attempt by some territorial officers, drawn in the ballot, to secure commissions in the Expeditionary Forces to the exclusion of returned soldiers, and urges the Government to stand firm in its resolve to continue to officer the reinforcements with men who have had actual war service."
