Itie new series of pictures at tho Empire lneatre was screened for the. lirst time yesterday afternoon. The one particular attraction among several is " The Countess 3 Inarming, ' in which, somo artists of high , an d standing made an appearance. \ pa.undors Julian swears revenge because ho has been socially ostracised. He has offended a leader of society with whose daughter he is in love. He assumes tho role of a Russian Countess, rents spacious apartments, and is amused, as the "Countess Charming," at tho effusive way in which he is admitted to the select circle. In the end the Countess finds herself quite the rage. Julian now proposes to fulfil his. promises to his sweetheart, Betty, by collecting a large sum of money for the Red Cross. He is not particular how he achieves his purpose, ar.d does not scruple to dcscend to actual theft. These thefts h are disoovered, and a detective is sent to ■- investigate. Suspicion is cast upon the h. unknown Countess, and a warrant is issued r [° ! ; her arrest. This titled lady gives a f ball, and her arrest _is planned to take plase on that particular occasion, but i- when the time comes she disappears in a a most mysterious way; and is heard no i more of.
