KAIKORAI SCHOOL

BAZAAR AND ENTERTAINMENT. On Saturday afternoon and evening another fine response was made by tho people of the Kaikorai district to an appeal for funds to pay off the balanco on the band equipment, which cost £103. The sum of £50 10s had already been subscriber] tuid tiie School Committee allotted £9 10s,' mailing £60, leaving a balance of £43! Strong evidence of tiie sympathy of parents and ex-pupils towards the school was shown, not only in the great quantity of goods Bent in, but also m the laige attendance, especially in the evening. Many people have an extra drain on their resources ;n these war times, and the committee is veiy pleased that the people of tho district supported it so well. The object aimed at was easily secured, the sum of £100 bein-r obtained. ° In addition to the attractive stalls, there was entertainment provided for patrons, in eluding music by the Highland J?ipe Band, the High Street School Band, the Mornington School Band, and the Kaikorai Sciiool Band: physical drill by school children, and Highland dances by four young people. Further interest was given to the display by the competitions for cooking, sweets, etc., the results being as under: Fruit cake Mrs Usshcr 1. Miss Kalston 2; plain sponge, Mrs Randle 1; decorated sponge, Miss Glen; pastry, Mis Gordon; biscuits. Miss I. Sunderland; cocoanut ice (open), Mrs Lee; cocoanut ice (children), Mavis Williamson; Turkish delight Mrs 'la.t; toffee, Miss D. Timson; bicycle, ¥V. Beveridge; hoop, Bessie Beverldge; parasol, K. Knox; basket, Miss Matheson; hat, B. Williamson.
