WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL

The montlily mooting of the Waihano County Council was hold on Saturday; present—Cra Mathcson (chairman), Pilbrow, Clark, Chapman, Aitcheson, O'Connell, O'Neill, and .Miller. A resolution condoling with tho parents and friends of those in the Palmerston district who had made the supremo sacrifice at the front since last meeting was passed by a silent vote. A deputation consisting of the Mayor and Cr Clark, of the Palmerston Borough Council, waited! on the council with a request to contribute half tho amount of repairing tho public pound, which would cost about £20.—Tho request was agreed to. Tho ranger reported having impounded six horses and 14 cattlo during tho month. —Received. Tho inspector's report, which referred only to the works in progress in tho various ridings, was adopted. Mr W. L. Craig wrote consenting to act as the council's assessor on the Assessment Court.—Received. An appeal was received from tho conveners for tho Country Committee of the Otago Women's Patriotic Association for assistance in prosecuting an art union, and also in the direction of encouraging straightout donations in aid of tho association's funds.—A motion was proposed that the letter bo received.—Cr O'Neill moved that £10 be voted to tho fund.—Cr Chapman seconded the amendment, which was defeated, the motion being carried. The Collector of Customs notified that tho gold output for March last in the countv was 13oz.—Received. Mr D. H. Finnic (Moonlight) wrote suggesting that the- couircil should pay him an increase of Is per yard in resnoct of all metal carted by him beyond the school house at Moonlight, as he had been under a misapprehension as to the distance he woidd have to cart the metal when he tendered to do the* work for 6d per yard beyond the school.—The council agreed to increase the amount as suggested. ' Accounts amounting to £276 0s 6d were passed for payment.
