LAKE LOGAN AND PUBLIC HEALTH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —May \vc havo tho uso of a small porI tion of your spaco to gam the attention of a wider pubLc than that confined to the vicinity ot Peiiohet Bay, to tho importance l of tho movement that is oil foot to havo what is probably the most dangerous plague ' area in Dunedm ipado sanitary? It is quite erroneous to suppose tliat this is a mutter of conscquejico to a comparatively t'cw i householders in the immediate vicinity. In its present stagnant,, evil smelling state, and in the worso state to which it may develop, ''Lake" Logan, with its swarms of (lies, is a potential source of infection for the whole of tho city. A few of those who unfortunately must daily conle into contact with this danger have striven for many months to get something done that should m-ike this area definitely and finally sanitary, and it behoves public men and others, in their own interests and in those of tho city, to assist to make successful what it is hoped will prove tho culmination of these elforts, to wit. the p.iblic demonstration in the Albany Street School Gymnasium on Tuesday i evening.' His Worship the Mayor has consented to preside, and we venture to suggest that it is tho duty of councillors, and members of tho Harbour Board to make an effort, to bo present to gain a first hand impression of what tile residents havo to endure because of tho proximity of this cesspool. In conclusion wo would like to state that the purposo of tho meeting 13 not to apportion the blame for a sorry bungle, but to endeavour to find a remedy and secure its immediate application.—Wo are, etc., Lake Lopajt Vigilance Committee.
