During December the Edna May Deep Levels Company, Westoni«, (W.A.), crushed 800 tons for a battery return of 1052-ioz, an average of 26.3dwt per tou, as compared with IISQJoz Ironi 950 tons, or 24.9dwt per ton, in November. The December tailings are estimated to carry 6dwt to the ton, compared with 7dwt in November. ■ Tli© principal operations carried crat in the Waihi mine during the four-weekly period ended November 17, 1917, were as follow:—At No. 11 level the Pistol N.W. crosscut was advanced to 185 ft. The last 15ft is quartz and country mixed, assaying 2s 9d per ton. The width of solid lode is 26ft. The average assay value for this width is 24s 3d per ton. At 140 ft in the crosscut, driving west was commenced on the course of the reef, and advanced to 22ft Assay value varied from 18s 10d to 64s 4d per ton. Five feet of quartz are exposed with the south wall in hand. At No. 10 level, Dreadnought lode, south branch, tho level was widened to 9ft froni 112 ft to 14flffc cast of junction on north side of level. The Cow S.E. crosscut commenced from Martha lode at 160 ft cast of No., 4 shaft. Crosscut has been advanced 34ft, making a total of 55ft. This crosscut is being driven to prove if tho north section of Empire met in Pistol crosscut at No. 11 level exists at No. 10 level. Another 150 ft of driving will bring the face of the crosscut directly over the point where the reef was met et No. 11 level. At No. 7 level, Martha lode, north section, east of No. 6 shaft, was advanced 16£ ft, making a total of 211 ft. Assay value varied from 9s 9d to 54s 3d per ton. At face 54ft of quartz is exposed, wilh north wall seen. A Sirocco fan, capacity 32,000 cubic feet of air per minute, has been installed near tho collar of No. 5 shaft. The B pump compartment will bo close lined down to No. 4 level. The air will be drawn up the Royal filling shaft to No. 4 level, and thence into the B pump compartment to the surface. This arrangement should improve the ventilation of the Royal lode workings.
