SCHOOLS' HANDWRITING COMPETITION.

The judge has forwarded the following report of tie Dunedin schools' handwriting competition, held under the auspices of the British Empire Trades Alphabet:—

"From the large number of competitors' papers received it is evident that the competitions aroused very keen interest among the children attending the city and suburban schools of Dunedin. It has to be borne in mind 1 that the children naturally endeavour to follow the style of handwriting set for them in their respective schools, hence the different styles of handwriting shown in the , competitors' papers. This fact, and alsb the legibility and neatness, of the writing, has been fully taken into account in arriving at the decisions set out below. If lie school children's interest in these compeitions continues and is encouraged, much good must surely result in producing firet-class handwriting. Tho child who writes well invariably expresses himself or. herself more clearly and concisely ttian the slovenly writer. "I. School Handwriting.—Standards V to VH: First ' prize, R.
