DUNEDIN OHORAL SOCIETY
The last practice held by the chorus of the Dunedin Choral Society assures a successful concert in His Majesty's Theatre on Thursday of next week. The programme will include two of Edward Elgar's short works. There are "To Women" and "For the Fallen." Of them, the Birmingham Daily Post says: "Tho To Wdmen' is very short but poignant In the middle of it conies a remarkable passage descriptive of the 'Hawks of War.' The 'For the Fallen' is as moving a piece of music as Elgar has ever given us —a work of passionate sincerity and beauty that is by turns touching, thrilling, and consoling. The climax is a magnificent outburst. Technically both works are of tho rarest quality Wherever ■we look at the cunning, telling strokes in the orchestra, at the effective choral writing, which crystallises the splendid technique Elgar has mado for himself in his part songs, or at the wonderfully thrilling- entries of the solo voice, we see the master." Honorary members are reminded that the box plan opens at the Bristol Piano Company to-rnorrow morning. •
