BY LLOYD GEORGE. TRIBUTE TO THE MAVY. PRODECIOUS WORK DONE. Router's Te'ogTams. LOND ,N, October 30. (Received Oct. 31, at 0.15 a.m.) In the House of Commons, Mr Lloyd George moved tlio thanks of the nation to the navy, British and overseas troops, medical and other services, and also to the mercantile marine and various war workers, including women, and expressing sympathy with the relatives of the fallen. In doing so, Mr Lloyd George said the deeds to which the resolution referred had won the admiration and jrratitude of every subject of the King. No words were needed to commend the acceptance of the reso'ution. Th" navy was the anchor of the allied cr.use. if it lost its hold, the hopes of the Allies would je shattered. If the ■0.v.-y had been defeated even a year ago, our armies in France, Mesopotamia, and Egypt would have languished and finally vanished for lack of support. In men and material, since the war began, the navy had transported 13,000,000 men, 2,000,0 CC horses, 25,000,000 tons of explosives and supplies, 51.000,000 tons of coal and oil fuel for the fleet and armies and the necd3 of the \llies. Out of these 13,000,000 men ou'y 3500 had been lost, of whom only 2700 we* lost thr o h the action of the enemy. That was apart from a prodigious quantity of uv.i and other mat.-jiM totalLna, 130,CC0,0U0 Sos transported by ships. Refer- inp to the dominions" part in the war, Mr Lloyd George said they had contributed between 700,000 and £00.000 men, and he emphasised how well they had fought.
