V The Tarawera, which was delayed by rain ■" at Oamaru, sailed at 1 p.m. yesterday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Gisborno, and Auckland. Tie Rqsamond is expected here on Thurs- " day from Greymouth. The Kittawa is due at Port Chalmers on Thursday with coal from Westport ~;. The Kamona left Wellington on Satur- * day night for Auckland. After discharge there she will sail for Westport to load for Port Chalmers. The Chilian Steamship Company is reported to have made a profit last year of '■: 7,028,373 pesos, as compared with 2,213,375 pesos in 1915. A dividend of 72 per cent, has been declared, as compared with' 20 per cent, for 1915. All the steamers are now running under Government requisition. The rate of hire is about equivalent to the rates of freight ruling prior to the war, : while the working expenses have increased more than double since that time, so that the prospect for the ensuing year is not considered very encouraging. The fleet consists of six modern steamers, with a total gross tonnage of 55,750 tons. The Corinna is bound for Picton to load .chaff for Onehtmga. She will return from Onehtmga to New Plymouth to load for Wellington and Dunedin. She is expected here on Sunday.
