MAORI-PAKEHA FESTIVAL

The Maori-pakcha festival organised by tho junior members of the Overseas Club was repeated in His Majesty's Thcatro last night to a fairly large audience. Tho performance is descriptive of tho story of New Zealand from the coming of the Maori to his union with the pakeha. Mr S. H. Osborn, as a Maori chieftain, carried out a rather difficult part successfully, and he was ably assisted by a large chorus in a number of song 3 and choruses. Tho dancing was the feature of tho entertainment, and was really well done, tho ballet dances being arranged by Mrs A. E. Wyatt, while Mr Simpson was responsible for tho light effects. Ths part of tho spirits summoned by tho Maori chieftain during his recital was taken by Miss Dot Flynn (spirit of Time), Miss A. Stubbs (Song), Miss Connie Stubbs (Rongo), Miss Ivy M'Col.l (Joy), Miss M. Hemint (lYosperity), and Miss A'. Carson fNight). A very popular item was the Maori song "Waiata Aroha," by Misses Nikuru Ellison and Rua Thompson. In response to the appeal sung by two Maori girls, a large sum was collected, which, with tho rest of tho proceeds, will be used for providing Christmas gifts for the soldiers at the front.
