SOLDIERS' LIABILITIES.

Sib, —In a northern paper recently appeared the - following The Minister of Finance informed Mr C. J. Parr last week that Sccond Division reservists were already being given assistance in regard to the payment of interest on mortgages on the recommendation of the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board, and this will be continued. It had been possible ever since the war commcncod for married men to obtain advances from the State Advances Department for the purpose of repaying mortgages on their homes." Would you kindly explain what this moans? Although I made application in March (and would have done so sooner bad application forms' been procurable) to the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board, asid although a certain amount of relief, has been promised, nothing- .lmg yet been paid My husband left New Zealand in 1914, and has been on activo service ever since. Surely it ought not to take five months to consider a straightforward case like mine. It is over eight months since the Minister of Dcfence promised this assistance. Does the Minister of Finance call married men now away Second Reservists? And when it is said assistance will 'be continued until when will it bo continued? ' The last statement is a mystery to me. I was forced to tsell mv home owing to the second mortgagee demanding that the capital value should be paid up. When pressed for this money (January, 1915), T made inquiries to see if Government assistance could be obtained, but oould hear of nothing except that a first mortgage could be transferred to the State. If relief could have been afforded by means of a State advance why was this not known in Dune din?—l am' etc., Soldier's Wife. '
