OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD.

_ The monthly meeting of the Otago Edo cation Board was held yesterday, and was attended by Messrs D. T. .Fleming (ohairman), J. Smith, J. Wallace, J. H. Wilkinson, D. Borrio, P. M'Kinlay, J. Horn, W. It. Brugh, and R. H. Todd. Tho following applications for subsidies for ropairs, etc, were agreed to:—Glenledi, repairs to fences; Benhar, erection of fowlhouse and run in connection with course of agriculture; Tokoiti, ashbin and repairs to fenco; Kahuika, repairs to fenoea and providing firewood.

The architect's recommendations regarding applications for improvements, ropairs, etc., with regard to tho following schools wore approved:—Henloy, repairs to buildings and grounds caused by flood, cost £21; Lovoll's Flat, repairs to buildings, painting and papering of residence, and now fencing and repairs to old, total cost £18; Duntroon, repairs to furniture in master's room, also to spouting on residence and repairs to outbuildings, cost £36; Alexandra, (a) removal or partition in residence, also painting and papering, cost £12, and (b) interior painting and kalsomining of school walls, £20; Roxburgh, erection of new washhouso and coal-shed, cost £50; Arthur Street, improvements to steps loading from street to school, cost £8; Tokarahi, picket fencing at rcsidenco, estimated cost £23, board to 'pay half cost; Pukeuri, repairs to buildings (not including painting); StrathTaieri, repairs to furnituro, outhouses, fences, blinds, and formation of path, cost £10; Clinton, payment of accounts, repairs to teacher's residence, £1 lis 9d, a copy of architect's report to be forwarded to tho committee.

The following applications were declined: Tokomairiro, improvements to janitor's residence; Sutton, ropairs to outhouses. Tho Inch Valley Committee's application for renewal of picket fence between playground and yard of residence ,was referred to the architect, with powor to act. The matter of the erection of a dividing fence betweon tho school and residence at Tahatika was agreed to, cost of material, £6 16s, .to bo defrayed by the board and tho work to. bo done by the committoe. The Kensington Committee's application for the erection of a teacher's retiring room at the school was referred to the architect for report. The George Street Committee forwarded the City Council's account (£3 ss) for removal of refuse from the school.—Held over. Applications for permission to let the school residences at Te Houka and Mosgiel were granted, subject to the school committees' approval. The letting of the Kuriwao school glebe (21 acres) was referred to the ohairman for report; Waitahuna West (16 acres), to Mr Smith, for report; and Rao's Junction (nine acres), to the architect for report. The Education Department intimated that Miss Irene Greenwood had boen appointed physical instructor for Otago, her duties to commence, on the 27th inst. The agricultural inspector reported that tho annual distribution of trees and shrubs from tho Training College garden had been completed, 2150 having been distributed to 42 schools; also that seed-saving at the same garden had resulted in a deduction of £40 in tho board's annual seed account.—Received, the board expressing satisfaction with the work dono. .Mr Jamas Scott was appointed commissioner at Gimmerburn, with power to exorcise all tho functions of a school committoo.
