T.no Miners' Federation Conference passed resolutions in favour of the nationalisation of mines, old-age pensions of lftj weekly to sexagenarians, immediate steps to secure adequate housing, an eight-hour day m coal mines, and better pensions for disabled soldiers and sailors and dependents of the fallen. Addressing the Health Congress, the Minister of Health stated that a Bfl] had been drafted which provided that quacks may no longer treat social diseases. Delegates emphasised that the Government should demand proof of freedom from certain diseases from all candidates for marriage. A motion was adopted urging Mr Hughes to prohibit the sale of alcohol for the duration of lihe war and during demobilisation. '
