CBISIS IE SPAIN
GOVERNMENT LOSING CONTROL. ITS AUTHORITY OPENLY DEFIED. EITHER. RESIGNATION OB REVOLUTION, Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright The Times. BAiRCELONA, July 23. (Received- July 24, at 10.30 p.m.) Details of the meeting of Catalonian deputies show that three trusted regiments were hurried from Salamanca, and with a big force of armed police watched the proposed meeting-place—the Hotel de ViLle (Town Hall). Meanwhile 71 deputies gathered elsewhere, and carried resolutions demanding the convocation of the Cortes (I arliament), the renovation of the political system, and the abolition of the promonarchial censorship. They appointed three committees. . '^ le Governor, discovering that he had been outmanoeuvred, despatched a strong force to clear out the " rump" assembly, which met the summons to dissolve with a point-blank "No." The Governor therefore ordered the soldiers to evict toe deputies and senators singly. The correspondent adds : " A critical stage has been reached. The Government is losing authority, and the assembly's manifesto is sold everywhere under tho nose of the police. If Senor Dato does not resign, a revolution must have the last word, preceded by a general strike."
