PRIVATE WAGHORN. Private Edward > V Waghorn (reported goundedon, June 30). is the only soVof Mr 'SirS; ™?Ehorn, street, Musselburgh. He last August, leaving New Zealand with the 18th Reinforcement (infantry). For ..military reasons he was detached from his reinforcement and' detained for some months m England. In a recent letter to his people; ;he stated he was tired of the monotony of the life in' English warning camps, and was: eager to do his bit at the front. He expected to ret to if ranee at the beginning of June, attached to a gun crew, and he was probably, with "it when he was wounded. Private ; Waghorn is 24 years of age, and is a Forbury Schoolold boy. Prior to enlisting, he' was a member of the staff of the Bible and Tract : Depot, m this city; ' ■ ■

RIFLEMAN MITCHELL. Last week cable advice was received by Mr John Mitchell, Young street, St. Kilda stating that his son, Rifleman Alexander Murdoch Mitchell, who, was previously reported wounded on June 8, had died from wounds on that date. He was born at Blue Spur, and received his education at the local school. After, leaving ! school he entered the employ of .Herbert and Co., grocers, Lawrence, first in the office: and 1 then in the store —seven years in all. He spent a few months with /Mr H. '> Bowie, also a grocer of Lawrence, but,, owing to that gentleman giving up business, he came to Dunedin, and for a time worked at the trade. He enlisted for the Seventh Rein-' forccments,, but, thinking he would- get to the scene of action sooner, went". into camp with the Ist Battalion of the Rifle Brigade' (Earl; of Liverpool's .Own), with which unit he had some stirring experiences, including the battle of the Somme. He was always of a bright iand cheery disposition,' and was liked by all who knew. him.

PRIVATE TYE. / Mrs G. H. Tye, 29 Frances crescent, Kaikorai Valley, received advice last week that her son, Private James Robert Tye, previously reported wounded, is now reported wounded and missing. Private Tye loft New Zealand with the Sixth Reinforcements, and whilo in Egypt was in hospital from sickness. On arrival in France he again became ill, and, having recovered, participated in the battle of the Somme on September 19, when he was wounded in the shoulder, arm, and hip. After about nine months in-hospital he returned to the front, and was reported slightly wounded on Juno 1. On June 7 he_ was wounded, and reported missing. Private Tye was a native of Lawrence, and was 30 years of age. He was educated at the Lawrence District High School. At the time of his enlistment. he was employed at' the State nurseries at Ranfurly.
