Mawson, who. was seriously wounded in the right leg in the battle of Messines, is the youngest son of the late Mr Joseph Mawson, of Purakanui. He was educated at trie Purakanui and Otago Boys' High Schools and the Otago University, where lie graduated M.A. He joined the staff of the Palmerston North Boys' High School, and later the Wellington College. He left with the Eighth Reinforcements (infantry), and later was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Along with others he \vas_ decorated by King George with the Military Cross for distinguished conduct in the battle of the 6ommc. SERGEANT FRAZER. Sergeant J. P. Frazer, who is reported wounded and gssstd, is the son of Mr John Frazer (Stirling). He went- with the Fourth Reinforcements, and landed on Gallipoli on Juno 7, 1915. Ho lost his only brother there. After the evacuation he went to France, and has beeji there ever since excepting for 10 days' furlough in England. He went as corporal in the Otago Infantry, but was transferred into the Machine Gun Corps on Gallipoli. • CORPORAL ALEX. GLEN. Corporal Alexander Glen, reported wounded on Juno 7, is the second son of Mr J. Glen, Roslyn. Ho was educated at the Kaikorai School, afterwards serving his time as a painter with Mr A. Lees. Corporal Glen left with the Fourth Reinforcements. This is the second time lie has been wounded. LANCE-CORPORAL DESMOND. Lance-corporal Francis William Desmond' 1 (reported killed in action in France on June 13) had an adventurous career Ho was a native of Ireland, and was alxmt 28 years of ago. Ho followed the sea almost from boyhood, and was a member of Dr Mawson's first- Antarctic expedition in 1912. He was one of. the party selected to go ashore at Macquario Island to erect the wireless plant. On his return to New Zealand from the Antarctic regions he joined the Dunedin City Fire Brigade, and was a valuable member for about 10 months. Ho then enlisted with the Otago Infantry in the Seventh Reinforcements, went to Egypt, and subsequently to France. Ho left New Zealand as a private, but was promoted to lance-corporal on the field. He made many friends while' attached to the ,City i Fire Brigade. So far as is known, the deceased had no relatives in New Zealand. PRIVATE GLEN. A cablegram has been received stating that. Private John Glen is seriously ill. He is the oldest son of Mr J. Glen, Roslyn. He went to the Kaikorai School, and after- ' ward 6 served his time with Mr P. Omand as a painter. He enlisted at Gisborne, and sailed with the Fourteenth Reinforcements. •"PRIVATE M'CLYMONT. .Mr James C. M'Clymont. of Green . Island, received advice yesterday that his ! second son, Private Malcolm Stewart M'Cly- ' mont, had been killed in action. Private M'Clymont was in his 21st year. He was ; born at Christchurcli, and educated at Wai- ' mate and Gore. He was apprenticed at ' Mr Bailey's tannery at Green Island, and ' had finished his timo when ho enlisted with the Seventeenth Reinforcements as a machine gun specialist. He was a keen athlete, and was a member of the Taieri ; Harrier Club. Mr M'Clymont's elder son - is on active servioo. He joined the Samoan Expeditionary Force, and afterwards left with the Second Reinforcements for Egypt, lie was wounded at the fi.illinnli landing. i He returned to the Peninsula, but was sub- ; sequently invalided to England, where ho > is now engaged in special work. ' LANCE-CORPORAL PEARSON. Mrs M. Pearson has received word that . her son. Lanco-eorporal Lancelot R. Pear- ' son. who was reported wounded on Juno 7, '. rejoined his unit on June 10. 1 SAPPER PARK. Professor Park has been advised that his second son. Sapper Frank Leslie Park, of , the New Zealand Engineers, was wounded ; on June 15, but remains with his unit. PRIVATE SCOTT. Private John Ashworth Soott (wounded) < is the oldest son of Mrs Catherino and tho ; late-Mr John Scott (Carisbrook). Ho was ') born at Queenstown, and was educated at '- the Ardlnssa and Gore Schools. He went ; to Samoa with tho first party, but was invalided home. He then enliste<i, and left New Zealand with the Seventeenth Rein- - forcements. Ho was previously a porter ; at the Duncsdin Railway Station.

PRIVATE DAVIS. Amongst those who wero killed in action in the battle of Mcssincs was Privato Francis Edward Davis, eldest sou of Mr F. E. Davis, of Roslyn. Privato Davis was educated at the Kaikorai School and the Jioys' High School, and he subsequently entered flic service of the Railway Department, being employed in both the Port Chalmers and Duncdin rail- j way stations'. Ho was of a courteous and obliging disposition, and wag very highly thought of by his senior officers, and by all with whom ho came in contact. In his privato life he had many friends, by all of whom he will be greatly missed. He was only 18 years of age at the time of his enlistment in the Seventeenth Reinforcements, and when death overtook him in the service of his country ho was but a few months over 19. Ho went forward with the full and free sanction of his father, who was for many years a member of one of tho local artillery units, and who also underwent a term of servico last year with tho forces stationed in Samoa. The family of tho deceased soldier have received numerous kindly expressions of sympathy.
