TAIERI POULTRY SOCIETY.

TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL SHOW. The Taiori i'oultry Society held its twentyeighth annual show at Mosgiel on Saturday in fine weather. The show could only bo classed as a local one this year, as there were very few outsido entries. While tho entry was not up to the average, the class of birds was good, tho exhibits of silver Wyandottes deserving special mention. Tho white Leghorn pullets in the utility Classes were also good birds. Tho secretary (Mr W. E. M'Lcan) had all arrangements very complete. There wero four entries in Plymouth Rocks, Mr John Paul and tho Miaees Imrio dividing the prizes. Only three fanciers had entries in Minorcas, spread over a like number of classes. Tho lirst prize-winners were Messrs W. M'Leod then), H. Miller (cockerel), and B. M'Cunn (pullet). Messrs T. H. Dalton and J. M'Gettigan divided all th-> honours in Rhode Island Reds. Messrs J. B. White and P. Oarolin (both of Dunedin) were the exhibitors in silver Wyandottes. The former won three firsts, tw6 specials, and a second; while the latter secured one first, one second, one third, and a special. Mr L. G. Marwick won first for black Orpington hen . and second for black cockerel; Mr A. Murdoh fust for black cockerel; Mr J. M'Gettigan first for buff hen; and Mr R. Renton iirat for buff cockerel. Mr S. Turnbull's exhibit was placed first for crossbrede and Mr. T. Croz:or's second. Mr R. Smsaton won both the selling classes —any variety cock or cockerel. The. first prize-winners in bantam classes were: Miss Marion Imrio and μ-bsts T. A. Brown, John Imrie, and John Clark.

Rusbatch gave a silver cup to the exhibitor gaming the most pointe in the utility (light) classes. Mr R. H. Thomson gained 10 points under this heading, with Mr Lewis Walton (6 points) lunner-up. Messrs Philip Bros, won tho society's special jjrize oi £2 2s for heavy broeding pen, utility section. Mr R. H. Thomson won first and_ special in any variety heavy pullet, in. white Leghorn cockerel, in white Leghorn pullet, and in the selling class. He also secured second and special in white Leghorn pullet, .white Leghorn hen, and light breeding pen. Messrs Philip J3ros. won the first prizes in breeding pen (heavy) and any variety heavy cockerel. Mr R. Smeaton secured a second and third in the selling classes, a third and special in white Leghorn cockerel, and in light breeding pen. Mr J. B. White won tho breeding pen (light) section, and second in the breeding pen (_ heavy). Mr H. M'Leod got first and special and second for any variety heavy hen. Mr Lewis Walton's white Leghorn cock was placed first, and awarded a special. The same exhibitor got second and special for white Leghorn cockerel, and third for white Leghorn hen. Mr A. Pedofsky was first for white Leghorn hen. Messrs Smart Bros, received a third and special and a highly commended certificate for white Leghorn pullets. Mr S. O. Rusbatch got second and special for white Leghorn cock and h.c. for white Leghorn cockerel. Mr James Thomson, jun., was highly commended for his breeding pen (light) exhibit. Mr P. L. Brown was second in any variety heavy pullet, and L. G. Marwick third in white Leghorn cock. The entry in ducks was fair, and competion better than in some of the poultry classes. The principal prize-takers were Mr L. G. Marwick, Mrs R. Sinclair, and Mr A. Murdoch.

The only entries in pigeons were in boys' classes, and Master Ernest Roberts secured all the first prizes. Messrs G. Gourlay and Neville Thomson divided all the honours in cage birds. The entry in this section was not a large one. There was good competition in children's pets, with the following results:—£horthaired Ryan 1 and special, Dan Walls 2, Gordon Murdoch 3; bantam, cock or cockerel—Ken.
