PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL

Tho Mayor (Mr T., Scollay) presided at tho Port Chalmers Council meeting last •- night, which was attended by Crs Fail, M'Lachlan, Steyenson, Isbister, Love, Lightboiu-ne, Williams, and PowelL A motion of sympathy was passed with the parents of a Port Chalmers soldier, v Wm. Smith, who was kffled at the front, ' and with Miss Botfc in the loss of her father. Resolutions were received from the Wai- , para County Council regarding the necessity of householders cultivating , kitchen gardens and of farmers growing, as much , wheat as possible, in view of tho threatened food shortage.—Received. . • Miss Philip, Palmerston, sent a. letter of thanks to_ the council for the gift in con- n nection with their recent visit to the Dun- ' * back Reserve; —Received.
