PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
T.he regular meeting of tho Otago Society lor tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, held yesterday afternoon, was presided over by tho president (Mr G. Fenwick). Mr D. E. Theomin wroto resigning his position on tho committeo owing to additional business responsibilities'having been thrown upon.him.—The resignation was accepted with regret. It was reported that Mr Baird (Arrowtown) had become a life member. A letter was received 'from the Southland Society expressing tho opinion that oU_ districts south of the Mataura River being part of Southland, should bo under tho jurisdiction of tho Southland Society As their last inspector got a good deal of support last year at Gore it was their intention to send tho new inspector there to try what could bo done. If they could secure new members who would not join tne Utngo Society they would be doin<* good %. OT } C A° T A ho ciU Jf° Considering' that tho Otago Society was strong financially it would bo a gracious act to concede them tho Gore district or at all events ftilow them to mnko a fair trial of what they could do there.—Tho Chairman said tho Otago Society was putting no hindrance in tho way of the Southland Society makinc what progress it could.—Tho letter was referred to a special eu-b-committeo to deal with.
