MINING.

In the stopes above No. 1 level in the Four-in-Hand mine gold is seen freely, and a little- picked stone was selected from the ore broken last week. Strong dabs of gold were seen in the reef in the north end of the leading stope. The country in tho south drive of No. 2 level is improving, colours of gold being occasionally seen. The secretary of the Nokomai Hydraulic Sluicing Company reports that No. 2 struck bottom on Friday. The prospects are fair. The No. 3 hands are employed getting No. 1 plant out of the paddock. The elevator was badly smothered with material, but it was cleared on Thursday.
