ATTACKS ON HOSPITAL SHIPS
REPRISALS INSTITUTED. ANGLO-FRENCH AEROPLANES RAID FREIBURG. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. i LONDON, April 16. (Received April 17, at 6.30 p.m.) The Admiralty announces that owing to German submarine attacks on hospital ships being in direct and flagrant contravention of The Hague Convention rule No. 10, a large squadron of Anglo-French aeroplanes carried out a reprisal'bombardment on the town of Freiburg on Saturday. Many bombs were dropped -with good results. .Despite many air fights all the machines returned safely except three. [Freiburg is in the Grand Duchy of Baden, at the foot of the Black Forest. It has a noble Gothic cathedral with a spire 380 ft high; a university, with valuable collections; manufactures chicory soap, tobacco, tanning, bell-founding, etc The population is over 50,000.]
