Monday, April 16. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Ellen Annie Keighran, for a third lapse within tho past six month s , ajid for procuring liquor during tho currency of a prohibition order, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on condition .that she paid 23s costa.-f-Minnio May Johnston, with, oho previous i conviction, pleaded guilty to a charge of, ■ drunkenness, and also to a charge of committing mischief by breaking a glass window valued at 10s, the property of Park, Reynolds, Ltd.—Senior Sergeant Hutton said that this woman wont out to a house to which sho had no right to go, and broke tho windows. Theft of a Bicycle.—Albert Goorgo Alexander was remanded until Saturday on a charge of stealing a bicyclo valued at £5 10s, tho property of Arthur Kirk Tateson. Theft of a Rug.——James Leo Vincent Rogan. through Mr Sciirr, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a rag valued at 12s 6d, tho property of Marv O'Halloran.— Senior Sergeant Hutton stated that tho accused and another young man went to a house of ill-repute. Accused,. who was .tinder tho influenco of liquor, took tho rug and went away to some scrub close by. He was arrested and on the way to the station tried to make his escape. Ho denied at' first having stolen the rug, but subsequently admitted tho offence.—Mr Scurr said that tho accused went to tho house whore ho was given liquor. Ho then took tho rug mto tno. scrub with tho object of having a sleep, Ho did not take tho rug , for the purposes of profit.—Senior Sergeant Hutton mentioned that tho complainant had not assisted tho police, and had refused to give evidence.— Tho Magistrate said tho woman deserved no consideration from tho court, and accused would bo convicted and ordered to como up for sentence when called upon.
