CR GREEN AT THE GOVERNMENT WORKSHOPS. Cr Green, a candidate for the mayoralty of the city, addressed a largo meeting of the employees of the Hillside Workshops at midday yesterday. In the course of a quarter-hour address • Cr Green contended strongly that tho offico of mayor ought to be a rolling one. It was a reward to which a man was entitled who had spent many years of his lifo in the public interest. If elected, ho would not, during tho war time, favour tho undertaking of any large work. Thoy must guard their expenditure closely at this period. - When the great had ceased, and things had become normal again, tho council should grapple with the question of the further extcntion of the tram service. In supporting the establishment of a destructor, ho said it was a mistake to dump house refuse on tho foreshore,. Ho advocated the sprinkling and flushing of the streets with salt water. At this stage tho boll summoned the men back to work. Cr Green received a favour, able hearing, and tho wish was expressed that ho would address another meeting at Hillside,

CR GREEN AT MAORI HIM,. Cr Grcon addressed tho electors of Maori Hill in tho Coronation Hall last ovening. Mr W. C. Thompson occupied the chair! and in introducing the candidate referred to tho good work done by him in tho NorthEast Valley Council when tho chairman was a brother councillor. Cr Green dealt fully with municipal matters, and stressed tho need of acquiring tho hill tramways. He further emphasised the need of an increased water supply, and tho expenditure of a certain amount of money on tho streets to keep men in employment, and thus obviato distress. Ho spoke strongly on the urgency of forcing the Government to recognise, in a more liberal manner its indebtedness to the men who wore risking their lives to defend tho Empire. Tho public should bestir themselves to see that our soldiers and their dependents were properly treated. Ho advocated the conscription of all war profits to that end. Crs Havward, Scott, and Black briefly addressed tho meeting and supoorted Cr Green's candidature. Cr Blael: stated that the father of a soldier was tho man required during the war as Mayor of tho city. Cr Green will address the electors in tho Mornington Presbyterian H,iil at 8 o'clock this evening'.
