BOWLING

COMPLETION OF EASTER TOURNAMENT. t The Jiual gnmes in the recent Easter Bowling Tournament were played on the North-East Valley green on Saturday atternoon, Mr J. Abbott, chairman of the Ilunedin 80-,vliug Centre, being in charge. The final in the City Pairs, between R. fountain and W. C. Allnutt, proved a tough fight, although Fountain and his partner went away with a lead of G. There was some fairlv heavy scoring after this, Fountain getting four shots at the eleventh end and Alinutt a similar number six ends later. Threes were faily frequent on both sides, and the-scores stood even at the nineteenth end; _ each pat having compiled 20. Tho twentieth end went to Alhir.lt, wiho scored a sincle, but in the final head —a very long one—Fountain got 111 2 and finished 1 up. In the final for the 1 rovincial Doubles," Gale and his mate rather ran away from Brown and Hogg, a 5 at the third a hit of "a killer'* tor Hose, and 3 at the sixth end did. not. improve mattfrs for him. Sti.l, he and h:s lead battled inanfullv, but ones' and an occasional two did not, wipe off "the overdraft," and the Dunedin pair finished 10 down. J-he scoring was very slow on both sides after the sixth i ltd, at which stage Gale was 10 to .lis opponents' 4. It was not until after the sixteenth end that any material advantage was gained by either Weir or Esson in plaving off lor third position in the Provincial Double's. Up to that it had been a see-saw game, ■ and the position then was 15-u in favour of Esson. After this the Mil.nig pair scored thrice, end kept possession o- the mat pretty well to the end of the game; finishing up with a majority of 7. At the conclusion of the contests Mr Abbott presented order 3 to the winning skips, and congratulated the players on their achievements. He mentioned that Esson an! The president, in declaring the green closed, opened his remarks by stating that there were IP2 members, and not a subscription was outstanding. He stated that the reason the club was closing the green so early w.is on account of the past dry seuson, and it was. essential thai the top-dressing be pushed on without delay, and also so as not to hinder the workmen who are at present constructing a clav v/all around the green, tiiis work being done "to keep the green moist, and he trusted, when the latter work was finished the cltib would get rid of the only obstacle they had had to contend with for years. He specially thanked the ladies for their assistance during the past season by attending every Saturday afternoon to dispense refreshments?' "Mr G. G.. Adess (vice-president) supplemented the president's remarks, and the singing of "God save the King" concluded the proceedings. INTER-CLUB MATCHES.
