A P al *ty of members belonging to the Dunedm .Naturalists' Field Olub spent the Liostcr holidays at Pounawea. A local board i n ghouea and a seaside cottage airorded the necessary accommodation. The weather was excellent, eo that, besides enjoying - the scenery, members had unusual opportunities for studying the native birds (kingfishers, boll-birds, torn-tits, fantails, etc.), the ferns (including treoferns and numerous filmy ferns—Hymenophyllums), tuo iung-i (among- others the vile-smelling cxt l uis!tol y beautiful, aseroo rubra), and the forest trees and shrubs (pines, rata, kamahi, pokaka., coprosrnas, etc). Tho Catlins River island, Hungerford's Bush, and Manuka i omt Bush, Jack's Bay, and the far-famed JJlowhole, tho buried forest on tho Cat!ins Beach, and the bold promontory known as False Island were all visited, and numerous specimens were collected for future discussion and further study.
