GOING TO THE FRONT. Prior to his departure for tho front, Mr 11. M'Dfcrmott was met by several of his friends on Thursduy evening and presented with a wristlet watch. Air J. vVest, in making the presentation, said ihat tin-fee assembled were satisfied that Mr M'Dermott would help to uphold tho honour of the grand old Einpiro to which they were all so proud to belong. Ho wished the recipient tho best of luck and a safe return. Mr M'Dermotfc suitably replied. Beforo leaving for training at Trentham, •Mr Norman Sutherland was presented by. his fellow-employees of Messrs G. A- Findlay and Co. with a wristlet watch. Mr Slow ley wished the new soldier every good fortune and a safe return. Tho Lyric Orchestra met at the residence of Mrs Sutherland, High street, on Tuesday evening to bid farewell to Mr Norman M'D. Sutherland, who is proceeding into oamp. Mr Macbean presented Mr Sutherland with a money belt, and: referred to the invaluable services he had rendered to the orchestra.

On Thursday evening a reunion of local residents and town and country visitors was held at the residence of Mrs M. Walquist, 45 Moreau street, St. Kilda, to bid farewell to Private James Walquist (26th Reinforcements) prior to his return to Trentham after final leavo. The chairman (Mr Geo. Alexander) presented Private Walquist with a wristlet watch, money belt, safety razor, eto., and l air pillow. He referred to tho honest, industrious, and good living qualities possessed by the reoipient. Mr Jackson presented the mother of the guest with an illuminated address signed by many intimate friends and wellwishers.

At Middlemarch on Monday the residents bade farewell apd God-speed to Private Victor Shea (Twenty-fifth Reinforcements), who is leaving for the front, and also wel'eomed home Sergeant W. J. Fisher (3rd Rifle Brigade), an out-patient of the Dunedin_ Hospital, as tho result of severe wound 3 received in Flanders, wlin arrived home on week-end leave. At the _ weekly rehearsal of the Burns Club Choir, Mr Chas. Farland, who is on final leave, was presented with a shaving outfit from the choir members. Mr J. Patorson (conductor), in making, the presentation, conveyed tho members' good wishes to the recipient, and trusted that he would have a safe return.

OTAGO WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION. Workers will be welcome on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for bag-making, and on Thursday and Friday for the usual work. Dr _ Newman's lceburo on Monday night promises to be very suooessful. There has been a large demand for tickets, and it is hoped that Burns Hall will bo crowded, as money is wanted urgently for tho benefit of our soldiers on active servico.

OVERSEAS CLUB

A splendid week's work has been done in the room,- with the result that another lot of cases will soon be ready for. despatch. Donors arc sending the goods m fine order, so that they may bo packed as soon as they reach the room. This- week the workers havo been busy making slippers' out of old felt hats, and will bo glad of further donations of hats for this purpose. Then a start will 'be made on blanket quilts if a supply of old blankets ia sent along. All workers are asked to help as much as possible, seeing that there is so much work on hand. Tho room is open on Mondays from 1.30 p.m. till 5 p.m., and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 5 pm.
