Cr Lunn has been nominated for a further term on the City Council. Messrs E. Aslin, E. E. Gayzer, A. W Cooper, and C. J. Meade will be candidates for the ,St. Kilda Borough Council. Mr A. Gow, stationmaster at Ngahauranga, retires_ on superannuation in May (states the Railway Officers' Advocate). Mr Gow has 42 years' service to his credit. It was his intention to retire two years ago, but owing to the war he was requested~to remain in the service.

Mr D. M. Kennedy, of Ure street, Oamaru, has been informed by the Minister of Defence that his lato son, Private A Kennedy, previously awarded the D.C.M.j has had his bravery recognised by the \Crar, who has conferred tlio Medal of St George of the Third Class.

A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that at a meeting of the Board of Directors of tho Bank of New Zealand yesterday Mr Harold Beauchamp was re-elected chairman of directors for the current financial year. Mr and Mis Gavin M'Ghie left Oamaru on Thursday (says the Oamaru Mail), after 30 years' service in the local Post and Telegraph Office bv Mr M'Ghie, in order to take up their home in Dunedin. to which office Mr M'Ghie has been transferred. Mr M'Ghie was at sll times a courteous and obliging officer, and will be missed socially as well as in his official capacity. On Easter Monday Mr John Handy an old resident of New Plymouth, dropped dead while pruning one of his fruit trees. He was born in England, but had lived in America before he settled in Taranaki 40 years ago. For many years he was in business in New Plymouth as a storekeeper. He was 83 years of age.
