MINING.
The secretary of the Electric Gold Dredging Company reports that the No. 1 dredge is expected to resume operations for the season to-day. The secretary of tho Nokomai Hydraulic Sluicing Company reports that at No. 2 the elevator has been removed, and the main lino of pipe was extended across the flat. A start was mado to strip off the top material _on Tuesday. No. 3 did very littlo sluicing last week, owing to tho shortago of hands. Tho following cablegram has been sent by the New Zealand management to the head office in London of tho Waihi Gold Mining Company:—"ln No. 12 level, tho west crosscut has been extended to 590 ft west of No. 4 shaft, north-west crosscut. Tho south-oast crosscut has been extended to 362 ft south-east of No.' 4 shaft, northwest crosscut. On tho Dreadnought lode oast, commencing at 142 ft cast, a further distance, of 26ft has been driven, worth £2 9s per ton. The width varies from 2ft to Bft. Tho total depth of No. 2 shaft is now 1481 ft from tho surface."
