CFbom Oub Own Cobbespondent.) WAIKOUAITI. January 30. The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening ; present—the Mayor (Mr G. J. L. Kerr) Ci-s J. T. Alkoek, E. Davis, A. Ilocklcr' G. Maxwell, A. Rollins, and S. R. Smith. Hie Acting Prime Minister wroto thanking the council for its support with respect to tho enforcement of tho" Military Servico Act, and stating that, if tho war continued for any length of tune, it would be necessary to make the utmost use of tho manpower and wealth of the community, and he hoped before long to announco 'some definite proposals relating. thereto.—Received. Mr C. W. Rattray wroto with reference to the partial failure of tho borough water service during the recent holdiays, and •suggested that tho council take into consideration the question of obtaining the services of a competent engineer to report on the whole system.—Tho council .decided 'to engage an expert to examine the syetom and report on tho best method of placing the service on a thoroughly satisfactory basis Several applications for approaches and other repair§ were received and referred to tho Works Committee to .attend to if deemed necessary. . It was decided to have the rubbish iyintr at tho lower end of Beach street collected by tho dayman, and the rubbish depot attended to. A resolution was carried selecting Wednesday as the day on which tho weekly halfholiday shonlcl bo held within the borough during the current year. ° Accounts amounting to £66 Is Id were passed for payment. \
