Faulks, Waikaia, be asked to furnish an estimate of tlie number of red deer in the "Whitcombo . and Upper Pomahalca districts.—Tho committee recommended that the season for native and imported gamo be as follows:—Native gamo: Grey duck, spoonbill duck, teal (except black teal), and black swan, two months—May 1 to June 30, inclusive. Pukoko: Fourteen days—May 1 to May 14, inclusive. Black swan: The number that may be killed is unlimited. Limit of native game (with tho exception of black swan) that may bo shot in ono day to be 25, and this number must include not more than 12 pukeko for the period tho latter may bo shot. Paradise duck: 14 days, not more than 12 birds per day. Imported game: Californian quail: Two months, May 1 to June 30, inclusive, not more than 40 birds per day. These birds may be shot only in certain specified areas. Mallard duck: Two months, limit of 12 birds • per day.—Tho committee recommended the Minister to prohibit the shooting of native or imported gamo with rifles. —The committee recommended that Mr F. Pennell, Waitahuna Gully, be appointed an hon. ranger under the Animals Protection Act, and an officer under part 2 of the Fisheries Act. —Tlie committee reoommended that deposits on blocks lodged by Mr J. 11. _ Wadworth, Ofcapiri, and Mr r. U. Vickerv. Invercargill. bo refunded in terms of by-laws governing the matter; that block 21 be allotted to Mr J. S. Varcoo. Cromwell: that Mr D. Sutherland, Milford Sound, be thanked for tho information re opossums in the Milford Sound district.—The committee redbmmonded that inquiry be made as to how the experiment of treating swallows for shipment to New Zealand was'progressing; that noticcs be- printed on calico, stating that the killing of seagulls on the coast.was illegal. It was agreed, after much discussion, the season for shooting Californian quaij be June and July; 30 birds per day. The remainder of the report was adopted.
