OTAGO FARMERS' UNION

A meeting of the erecativo of the New Zealand Farmers' Union Otago Provincial Council was held on Wednesday. Mr Jas. iSegg presided over a good attendance. 'Letters were received from the Hon. James Allen and Mr A. S. Malcolm, M.P., regarding the fin&nco proposals of the Government _m reply to suggestions made by his executive. The following remit was received from the Balclatha branch, and it was resolved to forward it to the dominion 6ecretary and the Prim© Minister:—"That this union notes with approval and appreciation the efforts of certain M.P.'s to reorganise and place on a satisfactory footing- the marketing of New Zealand meat commandeered by the Imperial Government and not required by the troops, and in expressing its strong disapproval of the apparerit exploitation by middlemen, suggests expeditious inquiry by disinterested commissioners." It was resolved that the report of the Dominion oonference bo posted to branches bo that the members might be able to read the discussions and conclusions arrived at by the conference on the remits submitted for consideration. The president, Mr James Begg, and Mr Fraser, delegates to the Dominion conference, reported very fully on the work of the conference, and especially on the remits forwarded by Otago. INSURANCE ASSOCIATION. A xseeting of the directors of the Otago Farmers' Union Fire Insurance Association was held on Wednesday, Mr J. Clarke presiding The secretary reported an increase of £5035 m insurances during the month, the total now being £261,265. Mr J. Pmill was appointed agent for the district of Heriot.
