SALE OF PICTURES
Mossr.-, Park, Reynolds (Ltd.) yesterday held .in auction sale of oil and water colour pictmos, and a few engravings and copies, representing both Home and colonial artist?. A pood part of the catalogue was devoted to pictures offered on behalf of the executor of the late Mr J. C. Thomson. Tho sale was without reserve, and, in consequence, some good pictures were sold very cheaply. Colonial artists predominated, and the prices for their work ranged from 5s up to £1, and m a few cases about £1 10s or slightly more. Tho best pticc for any picture was £5 10s for an oil-painting bv Walker, entitled "The Smugglers' Cave." Mr II." do C. M'Arthur gave £5 for a small sketch by Constable, and a nice picture, " A Farm Scene," by Wellwood Rattray brought a similar figure. An oil-ptinting, "The Cottage Door," by E. Walbourne, went for £2 10s. Two pictures by James Poole wore offered; one being disposed of for 22s 6d and tho other for 30s.
