Tho monthly meeting of the Albany Street School Committee was held on Monday evening Iho whole ot tho mcmbeis wrre present, and Air J. 11. Wilkinson presided. The head master reported that tho roll number was 644, the a\erago attendance (599) ha\mg been affected by the bad weather. Fi\e crates ot bottles had been collected by the scholars lor the Belgian Fund, and collect.ng was still going on. Iho sum of £1 10s had been collected in pcnn.co tor sweets for tho tulip garden fete Air Roydhousc and Aliss Livingstone (instiuctors of physical drill) visited the school diring the month, and examined and instructed every squad. It was decided to suppoit tho Canterbury School Committees' Association rcgirdmg tho ptandardisation of books. A vote of sympathy was passed to the widow and family of the late Mr W. A. Newman, a former member of tho committeo. The head master presented the inspectors' annual ropoit, which was of a highly satisfactory character. A vote_ of congratulat on was accorded Air Renr.io on tho excellence of the report, and the maintenance of tho high standard attained m past years. Air Wilkinson received the congratulations of the committee on his election to the Education Boaid Alessra Abcrnetliy and Aitken wore appointed v sitois. The weekly meeting of the Roslyn Band of Hope was held on Friday night in the Rnslyn Baptist Church, when the Rov. S Jt'iikm piesioad over a largo gathering. The programme wa± an exceptionally good one. Those who contributed items were: — Master Harold Bcath, flute solo (encore); di.'losru" —Misses Rene Oliver and Nolho Tvrell; duet, Alisses Florne and Rene AlacIntesh; solo, Aliss borna Stokes; recitation. Aliss Alav Sinclair; solo, Miss Alsra, Williams, recitations—Misses Jean Thomson, Kathleen Ileenan, and Gracio Scherp. Mr Jenkm spoke a few words on "Temperance." lie pointed out that anee'' meant something more than just abstinence from strong drink; it meant something fuller, widet —in short, it meant " self control" —control ov or temper, tongue, and appetite.
